I’ve got the summer doldrums. It’s been really hot which has made me want to move more slowly, even though there is much to be done. I can’t complain because it’s been a great summer in many ways. I’ve had the opportunity to spend time with friends and family and done some travelling. But my productivity has fallen. So here’s what I decided to do about it: Nothing.
From time to time we need to give ourselves a break. After travels and fun-filled visits, I came home to a backlog of tasks I really “should” complete. Other than taking care of my clients (I have great clients!) and doing some speaking, many of the routine, more tedious tasks have gone on the back burner.
I fretted about it for a while, and then made a conscious decision to approach the rest of the summer this way:
I’m giving myself permission to take certain tasks off the “to do” list (e.g. writing a newsletter every month this summer).
I’m building more flexibility into my schedule, purposely choosing not to attend some events I would normally attend.
I’m reserving one week self-care and renewal in August when I go to a health resort. This will be my reboot before the busy fall months.
We all need a break, mentally and physically. Once we make a conscious decision, our stress levels go down and we’re freed up to enjoy more of the present moment. Making an intentional decision NOT to do something removes needless guilt and stress.
What intentional decisions can you make to give yourself a break this summer?
See you in September!
Warm regards,
Susan
